Reds have a few layoffs in support staff
CINCINNATI (AP) - With fans buying less expensive ticket packages this year, the Cincinnati Reds have laid off a few workers on their support staff.

The number of jobs eliminated "you can count on one hand," said Karen Forgus, senior vice president for baseball operations.

Forgus said Wednesday night that the club's more expensive ticket packages haven't been selling as well as last season, when a visit by the Boston Red Sox was a big draw. Like other teams, the Reds package their marquee games along with others.

"It's as much a function of the schedule as the economy," she said.

The Reds have had eight straight losing seasons. They open spring training on Saturday in Sarasota, Fla., trying to rebuild around a nucleus of young players. The club traded its most high-profile players - Ken Griffey Jr. and Adam Dunn - in the middle of last season.
