TURNING POINT

Down, 3-1, in the third, the Brewers had their best shot to do some damage against Reds starter Bronson Arroyo when they loaded the bases with two outs in the third. But after falling behind in the count, 2-0, Prince Fielder popped up to shallow left.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE

* Reds leadoff hitter Willy Taveras stole second base in the fifth and eighth innings. Brewers catcher Jason Kendall has nabbed one of eight (12.5%) in his seven starts.

* Reliever Mark DiFelice pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning. In four appearances this season, DiFelice has pitched six innings and allowed four hits and one run (1.50 ERA).

The TV sets in the clubhouse were tuned Tuesday afternoon to ESPN Classic, which was replaying a game pitched by Mark "The Bird" Fidrych in memory of the pitcher who was killed in an accident Monday on his farm. Former Brewers second baseman Jim Gantner recalled collecting his first big-league hit off Fidrych on Sept. 3, 1976. "That was the night Mike Hegan also hit for the cycle," Gantner said.
