DAYTON - On Saturday, April 4, players who started their professional Baseball careers as members of the Dayton Dragons will return home.
It isn't a demotion back to the Class A Cincinnati Reds minor league team, but instead an honor. The minor leaguers will play an exhibition game against the Cincinnati Reds at 3:05 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. Minor league players from Single A to Triple A teams considered the franchise's best prospects were selected to play against the Reds.
Coming back to Dayton will be players such as Chris Valaika, Drew Stubbs and Todd Frazier.
The game is unofficially dubbed the Futures Game. The Reds are the only Major League franchise to hold such a game.
"It is like you're one of the Reds' top prospects," said Tom Nichols, director of media relations and broadcasting for the Dayton Dragons.
The reason it will be a homecoming for some is that players usually start their minor league career with the Reds at Single A Dayton and then move up through the minor leagues.
