--LHP Bill Bray, who opened the season with Class AAA Louisville, is in Cincinnati working his way back from a strained left forearm he suffered while pitching for the Bats last week. The reliever, who has a history of shoulder problems, said he had swelling and couldn't straighten his arm right after the injury, but he'd played catch three of the last four days and was looking forward to a bullpen session Tuesday or Wednesday. With left-handers Arthur Rhodes and Daniel Ray Herrera performing capably out of the Reds bullpen, there was no need to rush Bray.
--SS Alex Gonzalez logged his 1,000th career hit with a fourth-inning single.
--RF Jay Bruce continues to prove that his hand problems are behind him. His eighth-inning leadoff double gave him at least one hit in each of his four starts since missing three games with a bruised right hand.
--RHP Aaron Harang struck out Cubs 1B Derrek Lee in the sixth inning Thursday, his 1,000th career strikeout. The Reds scored one run total in his two losses, and his ERA is 2.00 to go with his 2-2 record.
