--1B Joey Votto, 2B Brandon Phillips and 3B Edwin Encarnacion have played every inning of the team's first 13 games. Votto has thrived, hitting .340, while both Phillips (.143) and Encarnacion (.175) have struggled.

--RF Jay Bruce missed the last three games of a four-game series in Houston, but he was back in the lineup Tuesday for the start of a three-game series in Wrigley Field. Bruce, off to a slow start, homered and singled Tuesday, but he is hitting .211.

--SS Alex Gonzalez (.094) and C Ramon Herandez (.194) were given Monday off in Houston but were back in the lineup Tuesday. Their replacements, SS Paul Janish and C Ryan Hanigan, are hitting .400 and .273, respectively.

--RHP Johnny Cueto (0-1, 4.22) starts against the Cubs on Wednesday, looking for his first win in three starts. Cueto, 9-14 last season, his rookie year, was 1-3 against the Cubs in 2008, 0-2 in Wrigley Field.
