--INF Drew Sutton, 25, was acquired from the Astros to complete the March 31 deal that sent IF Jeff Keppinger to Houston. Sutton, who spent the past two seasons in Class AA, will be assigned to Class AAA Louisville. IF Danny Richar was outrighted to Louisville, clearing a 40-man roster space for Sutton.

--C Ramon Hernandez took a day off from playing Tuesday to come to the park early for intensive batting practice because he was hitting .105. He then played Wednesday and had two hits to lift his average to .173. Hernandez will catch three of four games this weekend in Houston.

--RHP Jared Burton appeared in four of the first seven games and compiled a 2.70 ERA. But in one inning Wednesday against the Brewers, he gave up four runs that jacked his ERA to 10.38. Manager Dusty Baker has no plans to remove him from his sixth- and seventh-inning role.

--CF Willy Taveras, the Reds' leadoff hitter, is batting .333 with a .476 on-base percentage, recording hits in five of seven games and scoring a run in six of seven. "He is just what this team needed as we go from a power team to a pitch/defense/manufacture-runs type of team," manager Dusty Baker said.
