Redsground.com | Cincinnati Reds News, reds Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - The Reds are primed for a big season out of a well-established pitching staff, led by 17-game winner Edinson Volquez, but the team has not replaced the 40 homers, 100 RBIs, 100 runs and 100 walks provided every year by traded Adam Dunn. Cincinnati may struggle to score runs.
PLAYER NOTES: --RHP Bronson Arroyo is back on his regular turn and will face the Mets on Thursday after he had been moved back to Sunday due to carpal tunnel syndrome. But a cortisone shot and two pain-free workouts Sunday and Monday encouraged manager Dusty Baker to put Arroyo back into his regular spot.
--CF Willy Taveras missed opening day with the flu and was replaced by Darnell McDonald, who scored the Reds' lone run but committed an error. Taveras believes he'll be ready Wednesday after an off day Tuesday, hoping to provide the leadoff spark for which he was acquired.
--LHP Daniel Ray Herrera, who beat out veteran Bill Bray for a spot in the bullpen, gave up no runs and two hits over seven innings this spring, retiring 26 of 30 hitters. But in his first regular-season appearance, on opening day, he gave up one run, one hit and two walks in two-thirds of an inning. However, he'll be back in the game when a left-hander is needed.
--OF Chris Dickerson, who will platoon in left field and face right-handed pitchers, pinch-hit Monday on opening day, while RHP Micah Owings struck out in a pinch-hitting assignment and OF Laynce Nix grounded out on the first pitch he saw in his pinch-hitting debut.
