Cincinnati Reds Notes, Quotes 2009-05-14
--CF Willy Taveras beat out an infield hit in the third inning to extend his hitting streak to 14 games. It's the longest batting streak by a Reds player this year.

--2B Brandon Phillips watched on TV as the 30-game hitting streak of Washington's Ryan Zimmerman ended and said, "Somebody is going to beat Joe DiMaggio's record (56 straight games with a hit)." Phillips then doubled home two runs in the third inning Wednesday to extend his own streak to 11 games -- just 45 short of DiMaggio.

--RHP Micah Owings has two pinch home runs in his career that tied a game. The only other pitcher in the last 50 years with two pinch home runs that tied games was Milwaukee's RHP Brooks Kieschnick in 2005 and 2006.

BY THE NUMBERS: 20 -- Quality starts by opposing pitchers in the Reds' first 31 games. Cincinnati was 10-10 in those quality-start games.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We want to stay away from .500, above it, as much as we can, and we want to keep ourselves in the rear-view mirror of the Cardinals." -- Manager Dusty Baker.
