--LHP Arthur Rhodes, 39, and RHP David Weathers, 39, give the Reds a one-two setup punch with a combined 32 years of major league experience.
--INF/OF Jerry Hairston Jr., RHP David Weathers and RHP Mike Lincoln are three free agents the Reds did not tender but re-signed to one-year contracts. --2B Wilkin Castillo is a second baseman by trade and a guy who has caught in the past, but the Reds started him in left field five times late last year and won all five games.
--OF Jay Bruce replaced Ken Griffey Jr. in right field last year after Griffey was sent to the White Sox at the trade deadline. The Reds went 26-38 in games started in right by Bruce after going 43-46 with Griffey in right, but Bruce is the Reds' starting right fielder for 2009.
--RHP Bronson Arroyo was the only Reds pitcher to make every assigned start in 2008, including two on three days of rest. For the third consecutive year, he led the team in starts (34), and he has pitched in 200 or more innings four straight years.
BY THE NUMBERS: .427 -- INF/OF Jerry Hairston Jr.'s on-base percentage when he batted leadoff for the Reds last year, second best in the NL behind the Dodgers' Rafael Furcal (.434).
