--RHP Mike Lincoln and INF/OF Jerry Hairston Jr., two of nine free agents from the team's roster, have been offered contracts by the Reds.
--RHP David Weathers has been offered a contract but has told the Reds he prefers to see what is out there for him on the free agent market. --OF Corey Patterson and C Paul Bako, free agents, were told by GM Walt Jocketty that they won't be offered contracts, "that we've decided to move in a different direction." Patterson hit .205 and Bako hit .217 last season.
--1B Joey Votto, despite leading all NL rookies in hitting (.297) and home runs (24), finished second to Cubs C Geovany Soto in NL Rookie of the Year voting. Soto had 23 homers and hit .285, and he led Votto in RBIs 86 to 84.
--RF Jay Bruce, called up May 27 from Class AAA Louisville, hit 21 homers, drove in 52 runs and scored 63 runs. Over a full season, his numbers project to 30 homers, 75 RBIs and 91 runs. He hit .254 in 108 games.
