To be sent to the Reds, Owings must first clear waivers -- and therein lies the problem. The Diamondbacks cannot, at the moment, place him on waivers.

Owings, scheduled to start last Wednesday for Tucson (AAA) was scratched due to shoulder tightness. A player who is injured cannot be placed on waivers, so that is on hold.

When and if he recovers, Owings can be placed on waivers and must clear without being claimed for the Diamondbacks to be able to immediately send him to the Reds.

If a team claims him, the D-Backs will have to pull him off waivers and wait until the end of the season when waivers are not necessary before they can deliver him to the Reds.

Owings was on a 0-6 slide when he was sent to Tucson and was 0-2 in Class AAA before the trade.
