Jay Bruce walked to his locker in the PNC Park visitor's clubhouse Tuesday and was unaware that he was using the locker Adam Dunn used during his Pittsburgh visits.
"Really? All right. Didn't know that," Bruce said. Pure coincidence. But there was a stack of color actions photos of Dunn on Bruce's shelf and that was no coincidence. "He gave 'em to me and I just decided to bring 'em," Bruce said. "I'm absolutely going to miss Dunn (traded to Arizona), even more so than Ken Griffey. We had a relationship before I got to the big leagues -- working out together in Texas during the offseason, and he worked his tail off.
"We're still going to be friends, but this place is a lot different now. We're moving forward, and we have to accept it for what it is and the way it is. You can't give up just because people are gone. You have to move forward. Nothing stops for anyone in this game. The show must go on."
REDS 5, PIRATES 1: Edinson Volquez, pitching with two extra days of rest, held the Pirates to one run and five hits over 6 2/3 innings. He got offensive help from Brandon Phillips (two-run homer in the first), Javier Valentin (homer) and Corey Patterson (two hits, two RBIs) as the club broke a six-game losing streak.
