An injury to shortstop Alex Gonzalez is forcing manager Dusty Baker to shuffle his lineup, at least for the next few days.

Gonzalez, who missed all of last season with a fractured knee, suffered a left oblique injury while batting Monday in Florida and was sent back to Cincinnati.

He was examined and given a cortisone shot by Dr. Tim Kremchek. Gonzalez will be checked again Wednesday to see the extent of the injury and the time he might miss.

The Reds have little help on their 40-man roster, with the only infield choice Chris Valaika, who is hitting below .200 for Class AAA Louisville.

For now, Baker is playing infielder/outfielder Jerry Hairston Jr. at shortstop, although he has defensive specialist Paul Janish available, too.

Third baseman Adam Rosales was supposed to get Tuesday off against the Marlins, and Hairston was to play third. But with Gonzalez gone, Baker shifted Hairston to shortstop and put Rosales back in the lineup.

REDS 7, MARLINS 0: Edinson Volquez pitched eight shutout innings Tuesday, allowing three hits. Brandon Phillips tied his career high with six RBIs, including a three-run homer, as the Reds finished their road trip with a 3-2 record.
