While manager Dusty Baker was pleased with Cincinnati's 7-3 road trip, he and his team certainly were happy to get home from their longest journey of the season.
The Reds had played just five of their first 15 games at Great American Ball Park going into Friday's series opener against Atlanta. Baker points out they barely had time to unpack between spring training and their first road trip. "We were on the road long enough," Baker said before Friday's game. "We exhausted every ounce of our energy on the road. Now, it's time to regroup -- get home, see the family, sleep in your own bed. Of course, some of those guys don't have their own bed yet. They didn't have time to get their own places."
The homeless Reds should have time to find some lodging over the next couple of weeks. Twelve of their next 17 games are at home, and they have a day off Thursday.
BRAVES 4, REDS 3: Cincinnati RHP Edinson Volquez set a single-game career high with seven walks, five in a 40-pitch fourth inning, and the Reds set a season high with 10 walks in the first game of their six-game home stand. Three of Atlanta's runs were scored by runners who reached on walks.
