With an infusion of youth, the Reds have set a Great American Ball Park record with nine consecutive victories.
The last two were attained with the hot start of outfielder Jay Bruce, called up Tuesday from Class AAA Louisville. In his debut, he reached base five straight times with three hits and two walks, then extended his streak of getting on base to six straight when he walked his first time Tuesday.
He finally made an out with a hard-hit line drive to center his second time up, then ripped his second major league double in his third at-bat.
Bruce, 21, was the club's first-round draft pick in 2005 and is 4-for-6 with three walks in the two games.
"I'm a free swinger and don't walk too often, so this is unusual for me," Bruce said. "But I'll take them."
REDS 9, PIRATES 1: Bronson Arroyo, pitching on three days of rest, held the Pirates to one run and three hits over six innings and got offensive help from catcher David Ross, who drove in four runs, two on his first home run since last September.
