Outfielder Jacque Jones is hitting .088 (3-for-34) with no RBIs more than halfway through spring training, an average that is certain to earn the owner a one-way ticket out of town.
Manager Dusty Baker says if Jones is going to be part of the Reds, he is going to have to start using his bat. Jones played for Baker one year with the Cubs, so Baker knows what he can do.
"I've seen Jacque, and I know he can play," Baker said. "He has to get his confidence back through performance.
"For whatever reason you lose your stroke. He is still has to show something. I don't see much difference from when I had him before, but we're lookin' and searchin'.
"I know he still has desire and wants to play. He can play all the outfield positions, he can run and he's not old. He didn't get fat."
