After 2 1/2 years of failures in three separate trips to the majors, right-hander Homer Bailey finally looks as if he has found the key to success. The Reds' first-round draft pick in 2004 has three consecutive wins, posting quality starts in each one. After Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Pirates, Bailey is 3-0 with a 1.69 ERA in his last three starts, with 19 strikeouts and eight walks in 21 1/3 innings.
"I've said since he first came up this year that he is getting better and better each time he pitches," manager Dusty Baker said. "People forget that he is only 23 and already has tasted the majors for three years, even though he has been up and down.
"What people also forget is that he signed out of high school and that those who went to college are just now graduating and starting their pro careers. Homer already has five years of pro ball with 31 major league starts."
