Right-hander Micah Owings moved from the Diamondbacks clubhouse to the Reds clubhouse before Friday's game in Arizona, completing the trade of outfielder Adam Dunn to the D-Backs Aug 3.
It was reported then that Owings would be included in the trade. But he was injured at the time and on the disabled list, meaning he couldn't be traded until he came off the DL and was healthy. He's with the Reds now, but it isn't likely he'll pitch.
"He is not going to be able to pitch this year," said manager Dusty Baker. "We're not going to take a chance that he gets re-injured."
Baker said the 25-year-old right-hander will compete for a rotation spot next spring, but added, "I might use him as a pinch-hitter this year. He'll take batting practice with the hitters. We're just hoping he turns to the form he had before he was injured."
Owings owns a .313 career batting average with five homers and 18 RBIs in 112 at-bats. As a pitcher he was 8-8 in 2007 and started this season and was 4-1 before an injury slowed him and he went 2-8.

He gave up only one unearned run, but it was set up on his throwing error, then LHP Bill Bray walked in a run in the eighth and RHP Mike Lincoln threw a wild pitch to permit another run.
