The Reds are on the road for their next six as they continue Operation Spoilsport, three in Milwaukee against the second-place Brewers (National League Central) starting Monday and three in Arizona against the second-place Diamondbacks (NL West) starting Friday.
In fact, 16 of their remaining 19 games are against teams still in contention. Manager Dusty Baker said he plans to play them all like playoff games, "depending upon where they are in the standings. "I have personal pride in my record, our record, everybody's record. And what else do we have now but pride? I'm sure we have pride."
The Reds also have six remaining against the Cardinals, three home and the away, and three on the road against the Astros.
While the Astros probably are out of contention, they have beaten the Reds 10 out of 12 games this season, "There is that pride factor again," Baker said. "We shouldn't be losing 10 of 12 to a team in our own division."
REDS 4, CUBS 3: LF Jolbert Cabrera singled to left to score the winning run, a walk-off hit as the Reds scored three times in the ninth to beat Cubs closer Kerry Wood. PH Chris Dickerson had a two-run single in the ninth to tie it after the Reds had only three hits and one run entering the inning.
